At Key Skills, we’ve always believed labour hire is about more than filling shifts. It’s about creating pathways, backing people, and leaving sites and communities stronger than we found them.
That’s why “broader outcomes” aren’t new to us. They’ve been built into the way we work from day one. Whether it’s helping a temp turn a short-term job into a permanent career, investing in apprenticeships, or covering the cost of tools and training, we see every placement as part of a bigger picture.
What that looks like in practice
- Invested over $40,000 in training in the past 12 months.
- Spent $140,000 on apprentice tools so people can do the job properly.
- Supported 1,414 workers to transition into permanent employment overall, including 30+ last year.
- Helped five apprentices complete qualifications while working through us.
- Provided fully funded certifications including Site Safe, forklift, EWP, and first aid, plus driver licensing support.
- Created clear pathways into Leading Hand and supervisory roles.
These aren’t one-off wins. They’re long-term commitments. A labourer who starts with us today could be a qualified tradie in a few years’ time. A temp who takes on a seasonal contract could be the person a client later hires full-time because of the trust and experience built on site.
Why this matters for clients
Every hour invested in people pays off in productivity, safety, and retention. Workers who know the site, the team, and the standards help jobs move faster. The right gear and training reduce downtime and rework. And when people are building careers instead of just clocking shifts, you end up with stronger crews and safer outcomes.
It’s also about continuity. Investing in people today makes sure the industry has enough skilled workers tomorrow. By putting money and effort into training, inductions, and apprenticeships, we help make sure the pipeline of talent is there for the next project, not just the current one.
Why this matters for communities
Local hiring keeps wages in the region. It means people can live close to where they work, spend their pay with local businesses, and support the communities they’re part of.
It also means giving people more than just a paycheque. Work builds confidence, routine, and purpose. And when people can move from short-term contracts into long-term careers, that stability supports whole families.
Our commitment going forward
We’ve been delivering broader outcomes since day one. The next step is making sure clients, partners, and peers see that every dollar spent with Key Skills is an investment not just in labour, but in people.
That’s why we’re putting “building people, building community” at the heart of our story. It’s not a box-ticking exercise. It’s the reason we’re here.
